This course is designed to encourage discussion and provide
a safe place to get reliable information about alcohol and drugs. Five one-hour
sessions are scheduled over a five-week period. All participants attend the first
four sessions, while the final session is for parents only. Cost of the entire
program is $100.
Session 1 Objectives and goals are reviewed and
nicotine addiction will be addressed.
Session 2 This session examines marijuana, and
participants can discuss facts about marijuana and talk about why people use this
drug.
Session 3 In this session, participants learn
the symptoms and phases of addiction. This session will focus on alcohol, alcoholism,
and addiction.
Session 4 This session focuses on other types
of drugs and their risks.
Session 5 Only parents attend this session that
looks at the signs of chemical dependency, parental concerns, and guidelines.
Parents learn where they can go for help and view a film on disease concepts.
Following completion of the class, reports will be made
to referral sources. These reports include information on attendance, level of
cooperation, and any recommendations that are required. They do not include any
information derived from a personal disclosure. A participants confidentiality
is respected at all times.
