How do I get a sleep study? A Sleep Specialist will interview and examine you to determine if an overnight study is needed.
What happens if I am referred for a sleep study? We will schedule an appointment for you at a convenient time and location. After the study, our technologists will tell you what they learned.
What can I expect when I arrive for the study?
We make every effort to ensure your privacy, comfort, and safety so that your sleep study experience is as similar as possible to a typical night’s sleep at home. You will be asked to arrive at the facility around your normal bedtime and you’ll be escorted to a private bedroom. You may bring your own pajamas, slippers, and robe if you prefer — otherwise they will be provided for you.
Sleep technicians will attach electrodes to your head and body and then monitor the data they provide through the night while you sleep. Most patients do not find the electrodes restrictive or uncomfortable and are able to sleep as usual. In the morning, you’ll be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your sleep, and then you may shower and proceed with your normal daily activities.
A Munson Sleep Specialist will analyze and interpret your study and make recommendations for treatment and follow-up.
I always read before I go to sleep. Can I bring a book? Yes. We recommend following your normal routine as closely as possible.
Can spouses stay overnight? No, not unless they are a caregiver to an ailing spouse.
What can I expect after my sleep study?
Our Sleep Specialists will work with you to resolve any problems or questions you may have about your condition, treatment, or use of therapeutic devices. We are always available by telephone to answer any questions you may have.
Does insurance cover the cost of the study and treatment of sleep disorders?
Insurance coverage varies by carrier. Most carriers cover sleep consultation and sleep studies for most diagnoses. Refer to your durable medical equipment clause in your insurance policy to determine coverage for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) systems.
