Traverse City business owner Chuck Havill's enthusiasm
for Munson Medical Center comes naturally he was born here.
Two of his three children were also born here. So when Chuck was
invited to join the Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation Board,
he was quick to accept.
"Munson has a special place in my heart,"
says Chuck, who owns and operates Credit Bureau of Traverse City.
"I've been involved in other projects for Munson for quite
a few years. It's always been important to support the hospital."
Chuck was born and raised in Traverse City. He left
to earn degrees in psychology, communications, and education at
Michigan State, then returned to join Credit Bureau of Traverse
City, a business owned by his family since 1966.
Gov. John Engler appointed Chuck to the state Collection
and Practices Board, which oversees the credit/collection industry
in Michigan. He's also a member of the Traverse City Rotary Club
and sits on a scholarship board at Northwestern Michigan College.
These are activities that he enjoys, but it's Munson
Medical Center that has a special place in his heart. Chuck takes
pride in the growth of the hospital. He's seen it evolve from
a community hospital to a regional health care center that serves
a wide geographic region. "It has maintained its community
hospital feeling and focus, at the same time, it has the technology
and talented personnel of a Top 100 Hospital," says Chuck.
"It's so important to have that technology, yet retain local
flavor."
"It's like Grand Traverse Bay. People
sometimes take it for granted. But it's an amazing resource that
we have to nurture and support," he says. "Munson Medical
Center belongs to the people, to the community. People need to
know that this resource needs support to survive. We have to keep
this gem of a hospital and educate our friends and neighbors about
the need to provide financial support. Our mission is philanthropy."
